What to expect at your first appointment

Your first appointment is 75–90 minutes. That's intentional. Acupuncture works best when it's built on a complete picture — not a chief complaint and a quick needle protocol.

We begin with a thorough intake. Your acupuncturist reviews your full health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, and goals. This includes pulse and tongue diagnosis — approaches specific to Chinese medicine that give us a whole-body read on what's happening, not just the symptom you came in for.

From there, you'll get a clear explanation. Your acupuncturist will tell you what they found, what they're treating, and why. If something in your history suggests you'd benefit from another Indigo provider — nutrition, pelvic PT, functional medicine — you'll hear that here, not three appointments later.

The treatment itself is typically deeply relaxing. Hair-thin sterile needles are placed at specific points. Cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, or e-stim may be incorporated depending on your presentation. Most patients are surprised — and a fair number fall asleep.
